There is a possibility that we are also open at night. It all depends on when the Volvo Ocean Race boats arrive in The Hague. Times and program are subject to change.

*Race arrival & departure

The Volvo Ocean Race Festival is a stopover on the official route of the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-2015 from Lorient in France to the finish in Gothenburg, Sweden. The sailors have been sailing for eight months and have travelled about 65,000 km. At 5 p.m. on 16 June, the boats will set sail from Lorient and head for Scheveningen. Obviously, the actual arrival of the boats in the harbour of Scheveningen depends on the wind, but they are expected in Scheveningen on 18 or 19 June. The harbour heads act as finishing line.

On Saturday 20 June, the boats will sail out in the same order and timing in which they sailed in. A spectacular sight. For the sailing fans, the boats will make an additional lap before the coast of Scheveningen, before setting sail for the finish in Gothenburg.

Follow the (social) media for the final start time!

The Volvo Ocean Race experience

Entrance to the Volvo Ocean Race Festival is free. The eye catchers are of course the racing boats, which can be admired at close range. Have you always wanted to know what it feels like to be at the helm of a Volvo Ocean 65, what the beds on the lower deck feel like or whether the toilet offers any privacy? The Volvo Ocean Experience gives you the opportunity to explore the inside of a VO65: a racing boat sawn in half is accessible to all. With the Volvo Ocean Race spectacular film images are guaranteed; these can be watched in the mini-cinema. The film will be combined with the Volvo Ocean Race quiz with the cryptic title ‘Another day at the office’. And of course you can take selfies with the Volvo Ocean Race Trophy!

Would you like to contribute to the Volvo Ocean Race Experience as a volunteer? Have look at volunteers.

Kids programme

The Volvo Ocean Race Festival is for big and small sailors. Children can sail, surf, canoe and sup for free. On top of this, during this festival you can learn everything you want to know about the water sport, the sea, nature and the teamwork. Of course, there will also be the opportunity of a meet and greet or to attend a kids’ show with a real Volvo Ocean Race sailor! And if you get hungry, there are more than enough stalls where you can buy a hamburger with fries or other tasty food.

Would you like to learn more about the Volvo Ocean Race? Have a look at the race section.

Water sport activities

A variety of water sports activities will be organised during the Volvo Ocean Race Festival, both on water and on land. Clinics will be organised, where you can try various water sports, such as wave surfing, kiting, wind surfing, supping and catamaran sailing. There will also be demonstrations and competitions, which can be watched from the quay and harbour heads. All are welcome to attend this public spectacle!

Would you like to berth your boat in the harbour? Have a look at harbours.

Concerts

Just like the Volvo Ocean Race itself, the festival continues in the evening. This is when concerts will be held in the neighbouring festival grounds, where you can dance and sing along with famous Dutch musicians.

Entrance to the Volvo Ocean Race Festival is free. Everyone is welcome to visit the festival and take part in various activities. Tickets must be purchased for evening concerts. Don’t forget to buy a parking ticket with your event ticket if you want to come by car.

The line-up for Friday and Saturday:

19 June: Golden Earring, Racoon, DI-RECT
20 June: Anouk, Typhoon, Gers Pardoel, Nielson en Miss Montreal

Royal Navy

One highlight of the Volvo Ocean Race Festival is the presence of the Dutch Royal Navy. They will be visiting the harbour of Scheveningen with their advanced vessel HNLMS Groningen. This ‘Vessel of the Year 2012’ has been commissioned, among other things, for operations against piracy and drug trafficking, and for coast guard duties. And the ship will be open to the public!

So, be sure to visit the festival and test your strength at the climbing wall, have a look inside a diving tank, or sail a frigate in the simulator.

Side events

Soon, additional information will be available here on side events that will take place during the Volvo Ocean Race Festival.

Would you like to know if more details on side events are available yet? Have a look at the news section (only in Dutch).

Location

The festival area can be reached by bike or public transport. The Volvo Ocean Race Festival area is only accessible by car if you have a parking ticket for day and/or evening, but you have to buy this ticket in advance.
